CEMEX, S.A.B. de C.V. (“CEMEX”) (NYSE: CX) announced today that it is extending the scope of its global sustainability identity ecoperating™ to distinguish projects that demonstrate special sustainability characteristics.
The ecoperating™ Building Certification accredits buildings, during their design, construction and/or operation phase, with notable sustainable features and performance above the market standard. Through this certification, CEMEX recognizes projects that save energy, water and reduce the environmental impact associated to construction and buildings.
The certificate methodology incorporates recognized international criteria to evaluate the characteristics and performance of buildings in two mayor areas:
- Energy Efficiency comprised of one mandatory requirement referenced against the national US standard ASHRAE 90.1-2007. The American Society of Air Conditioning, Refrigeration and Heating (ASHRAE), establishes minimum requirements for the energy efficient design of buildings; and
- Sustainable Design composed of four elective requirements with flexible compliance options including: water consumption reduction, use of local materials, heat island effect reduction and innovative sustainable solutions such as generation of renewable energy and others.
“CEMEX is proud to introduce this building certification to architects, real estate developers and construction companies around the world,” said Vicente Saisó, CEMEX’s Sustainability Director. “CEMEX is ambitiously pursuing a leadership role in the development of products, services and building solutions that contribute to a more sustainable construction sector, while fostering social and economic growth.”
CEMEX ecoperating™ Building Certification is a global initiative that has been pilot-tested in Mexico and is ready to be implemented in all countries were CEMEX operates, with minor local adaptations to make it relevant and useful in all geographies.
This certification is not aimed to substitute other international building certifications such as LEED or BREEAM, CEMEX consider it as complementary tool to promote the extensive use of sustainable practices in the construction industry.
CEMEX is a global building materials company that provides high-quality products and reliable services to customers and communities in more than 50 countries. CEMEX has a rich history of improving the well-being of those it serves through innovative building solutions, efficiency advancements, and efforts to promote a sustainable future.
